Fire Inside print with Certificate of Authenticity, print instructions and stamp.
I have struggled with the decision to sell my art as limited edition. I am not naive to the success of the scarcity marketing tactic that drives fomo and sales, while giving the buyer the perception of increased value, a sense of power and exclusivity.

Limited edition prints are based on lithographic printing, a model of early print making where the initial prints were thought to be of a better quality. Over time the process of printing an image from a stone plate would degrade the print and eventually limit the number of prints created. Due to the digital nature of my collage art and modern printing production, it is not subject to this kind of degradation in the printing process.

I have chosen to take a modified approach to my print reproductions by using an Open Numbered Edition. With this approach, I number, date and sign all my prints, similarly to a limited edition print, however I do not limit the number in the edition. This leaves me the option in the future to print more, discontinue the print or use it in other media.

By dating and maintaining a sequential order, it allows collectors and sellers to know where in the sequence and time the art was printed. It satisfies some collectors desires to have the earliest version of a print, which may be seen as more valuable. It acknowledges the importance of time and history in the production, while not limiting my economic potential.

The reason I take this approach to selling my collage art is to allow it to be accessible to a greater number of people, and not limit its access over time to only those who can afford it. Limited prints tend to benefit economically the buyer and subsequent seller more than the artist themselves.

One of my primary motivations to make art is to build connection, sympathy to one and other and to offer a pathway to emotional expression, healing or simply to escape. This open numbered approach creates more of a balance in economy between the collectors, sellers and me, the artist.

This approach to printing honours the dynamic nature of art and the evolution of the creative process and production. It allows for artistic growth, refinement and the expansion of creative vision. It also aligns with the balanced approach I take to life, where I try to live from a place of love, mutual flourishing and from an abundance mindset which allows for the potential for everyone to thrive.

For those collectors who are attracted to my art, and interested in something more rare, I am open to commissions – Contact me for details. You may also be interested in the Intuitive Soul Art – Custom Collage.
